1. Jonathan Chancellor’s McGrath Crush
We all know that Chancellor’s been intimately linked with a who’s who of Sydney real estate agents for the last 20 years, but his recent posting on estate agent John McGrath’s loss-making Walsh Bay $5.5m sale is just straight up pandering. After attributing McGrath’s loss-on-investment as the effect of a “watering down” of Walsh Bay’s market (instead of calling it what it was: the bad idea of investing in a lackluster off-the-plan McMansion-in-an-apartment-block in a B+ setting), Chancellor proceeded to herald his purchase of another unit in the block as McGrath as “taking the opportunity of subdued pricing”. Chancellor then goes on to rave about McGrath’s listing agent Richard Shalhoub as “selling Walsh Bay better than any other agent in Sydney.” If he really sold Walsh Bay better than any other agent, wouldn’t he have sold McGrath’s property for a higher price than his original settlement and renovation costs?

I guess that’s what happens when you get your property tips from estate agents with motives other than simply reporting on property…

Update! More Jonathan Chancellor pandering to John McGrath’s publicity needs here! I guess that’s the trade-off for getting to know what properties are hitting the market a few days early…
